Ani Difranco

Angela Maria Ani DiFranco is an American-Canadian artist and singer. Her albums span over 20 years. Her music is categorized as folk, alternative and rock but she also draws influences of hip-hop and jazz. Ani DiFranco was among the first musician to start her own record label in 1990. Ani is widely considered to be a feminist icon. DiFranco's parents were Elizabeth (Ross), a former student at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Dante Americo DiFranco met each the other when they were students at the same school. Her father is of Italian roots and her mother was born in Montreal. Her song 32 Flavors, was composed by her, and performed by Ani. The song is from her album from 1995 Not a Pretty Girl, that was her sixth studio release. It was also featured on the soundtrack to the Canadian romantic comedy Better Than Chocolate, released in 1999. DiFranco issued an apology in 2013 after it emerged that she had set up a three-day workshop on a Louisiana plantation. A lot of people (including us) weren't moved by her cancellation. DiFranco released a new apology several days after. Although she's known by the name of Little Peoplesinger, she has been in contact with a myriad of musicians and artists, from Pete Seeger through Chuck D until Prince. She lives in New Orleans. Ani is Kristen Ford. At 14, she began writing her own songs. They performed at coffeehouses, bars, and in the streets through her teenage years. DiFranco began taking courses in Buffalo State College at age 16 following her graduation from the Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts. Ani's new baritone was created by custom Alvarez guitar, designed by Chrys Johnston, who at the time was working as the Alvarez Artist Representative. It comes with the System 600 amp and is entirely made of solid woods, including a cedar-top mahogany body and sides featuring an ebony fretboard. She's home with her two kids living in New Orleans and Lefty, their dog with long legs that is never out of the frame. DiFranco says she is ambivalent to the thought to look at her work in retrospect, even though it's been three decades. Singer-songwriter and punk/folk musician Ani DiFranco achieved musical hero status at the age of 25 among both fans and critics after her seventh release Not A Pretty Girl in 1995 and even greater popular recognition through Dilate the following year. "Brandy" (You're A Beautiful Girl) by American Popular Rock group Looking Glass is from the album Looking Glass. It was written by Looking Glass lead guitarist and co-vocalist Elliot Lurie.
