Perry was born to Laurie Metcalf (actor) and Jeff Perry (actor). Perry made her debut in television shows in the role of Jackie Harris, a character which was played by her mother in the ABC comedy Roseanne. She was not allowed to start acting with her parents till adulthood, as they feared the stress it would create. Perry confessed that she wasn't comfortable acting in high school, but started performing as a means to meet new people at Northwestern University after switching from Boston University. Perry managed to get minor TV roles in Law & Order: Criminal Intent after she graduated. However, her homesickness led her back to California and she returned performing on stage. Perry was a part of the cast with her mother on stage in The Other Place at Broadway, back in 2013. In 2015 she performed alongside her father and Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Anna Christie in the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. Perry was featured nine times on The Family, an ABC film The Family, in 2016. In 2017, Perry had the role of a political thriller Scandal with her father. The same year she was cast as a younger model of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) on Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again as a teen version of her mother's character. She was cast in the role in spite of her strong relationship with the character's family.
